NorCal Announces New NPL Clubs

NorCal Premier is excited to announce the addition of new clubs to the National Premier League (NPL) for the 2023/24 season. The NorCal NPL has been the pinnacle of the NorCal pyramid for more than a decade, and provides a pathway to the highest levels of competition in NorCal for NPL clubs and qualifying wild card teams. Each year, only a few clubs meet the standards to become an NPL club. CLICK HERE TO READ ARTICLE

Focused on long-term player development for the country's top soccer clubs, allowing consistent, meaningful high-level games appropriately scheduled with higher training-to-game ratios and eliminating calendar congestion. Integrated with the id2 Program, which includes Player Development Programs (PDPs), and player and coach development designed and structured by the clubs, based on the needs of the clubs that provide an avenue for qualification for the NPL Finals.

The National Premier Leagues will serve youth soccer by forming and collaborating with leagues, adopting the Players First philosophy, and supporting US Club Soccer's mission to foster the development of clubs.

The NPL's mission is to facilitate more meaningful games, reduce travel and provide a pathway to postseason competition.

What does moving to the NPL mean for Valley Surf And our players?

Competing in the NPL further enhances our player development pathway, provides a future pathway to higher-level competition, and access to regional and national showcases, and is a collegiate identification platform.

The NPL is a national league providing an elite competition platform for top competitive youth soccer clubs in the U.S. Clubs must apply and meet competitive standards to be admitted to the league.

We are always working to provide the best competitive and development opportunities for our players. The NPL provides that next level of consistent competition for our players allowing our players to play in a league against the top clubs in NorCal.

Both our Boys and Girls programs participate in the NorCal Premier NPL

Valley Surf’s Boys 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U/19U teams will participate in NPL.

Valley Surf’s Girls 13U, 14U, 15U teams will participate in NPL.

Our 11U and 12U boys and girls will participate in the Pre-NPL.

Yes, players can participate in NPL and High School soccer. There is no conflict between NPL and High School seasons for 15U and up.

NPL teams will follow the existing club schedule with a pre-season team camp in mid-July and practice beginning in August following team camp. Regular season league games are expected to begin in mid-August and may run through May 2023. The season ends with the playoff/showcase event in June.

Older U16 and above teams participate in two College Showcases. These are played at the end of the Fall and Spring seasons.

Teams can expect to play away games at conference opponent locations or neutral site locations. Travel may be anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours away. Games will most likely be played in pairs with traveling teams playing one (1) game on Saturday and one (1) game on Sunday depending on the distance traveled. Valley Surf will play in the NorCal NPL Division.

Teams will train a minimum of three (3) times per week. Practices will be held at River Islands Sports Park in Lathrop.

Yes, college coaches attend NPL games.

The Fall and Spring College Showcases are the best attended College events in Northern California. These showcases are consistently attended by Division I, II, and III coaches.

All players in Valley Surf are eligible to play in the NPL.

Yes, players can play for their current club and our NPL team as long as the player’s home club is not a US Club club.

2023 NPL Finals dates and location announced

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Sept. 26, 2022) – The National Premier Leagues (NPL) Finals is returning to the Mile High City for the fourth consecutive year. US Club Soccer will host the prestigious championship event, July 6-12 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado.

The NPL Finals is the annual, coveted destination for all NPL participants. U-13 through U-19 teams qualify through year-long competition within their respective member leagues. The 2023 NPL postseason structure has a singular focus for both boys and girls: the 2023 NPL Finals. The boys schedule will span July 6-12, which includes a rest day, while the girls play July 6-10. The longer tournament schedule for boys competitors means no NPL East or West Playoffs this year, which allows qualifiers to play other teams of greater geographical diversity in the immediate next stage of their postseason journey.

DICK’S Sporting Goods Park has hosted US Club Soccer members competing for championships – including the NPL Finals and National Cup Finals – since 2019. The complex features 25 fields, including two turf. It serves as the home of Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids.
